Pros and cons
Direct Calcium Bolus
Dietetic feed for dairy cows in bolus form to supplement calcium in the period around calving to reduce the risk of milk fever and subclinical hypocalcaemia.
Contains a combination of 2 highly absorbable calcium forms, calcium formate and calcium acetate, and provides 25 grams of available calcium per bolus.
Why a calcium bolus
Shortly before or after calving, a dairy cow can develop a shortage of calcium supply in the blood, as calcium demand increases sharply around calving. If the cow cannot replenish this supply quickly enough, calcium blood levels can become too low, resulting in visible signs of milk fever, such as reduced appetite and activity, cold ears and less functioning skeletal and organ muscles. In a larger group (40-50%), however, symptoms are not immediately visible, but low calcium levels can have consequences later in lactation.
The Direct Calcium Bolus is an easy-to-administer gelatine capsule, which dissolves quickly in the rumen, so the contents containing calcium formate and calcium acetate are also quickly released. Due to the good absorbability of both calcium forms, the calcium becomes available to the cow quickly. This ensures a gradual rise in calcium levels, which is maintained over a longer period of time.
The perfect choice for any dairy farmer to supplement calcium in dairy cows for an optimal start of lactation.
