Salmon oil vs. linseed oil
Both salmon oil and linseed oil are rich in essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself, while the body does need them to function normally. The big difference between salmon oil and linseed oil is in the types of omega 3 fatty acids. Linseed oil is particularly rich in 1 type of omega 3 fatty acid (ALA), while salmon oil is also rich in EPA and DHA in addition to ALA.
This ALA is most present in vegetable oil, while EPA and DHA are mainly found in animal oil. ALA fatty acids must first be converted to EPA and DHA by the animal in order to be used in the body. However, this process is rather inefficient, resulting in a conversion of only 5-10%. The animal EPA and DHA omega 3 fatty acids can be used directly by the animal, which means that the omega 3 fatty acids given via salmon oil are used much more efficiently.
