Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal
Used to seal the teat end during dry off. Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal is formulated on a polymer basis and forms a breathable layer.
Why Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal?
Cows form a natural keratin plug in the teats after the dry-off, which seals the teat end of the teats. However, the development of such a closing keratin plug is not always successful. One factor that may limit this process is a high daily milk yield (>12 kg) at the time of dry-off, which may lead to milk stasis ad milk leakage after dry-off. Research1 has shown that about 50% of teats have not formed a natural, dense keratin plug one week after drying off and that 6 weeks after drying off an average of 23% of teats are still ‘open’ and therefore susceptible to bacterial invasion. In addition, the teats may be congested again in the week before calving, with the teat end slightly open again.
By applying Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal, a layer is applied over the teat end, forming an outer physical barrier against bacteria and thus an (additional) protective layer.
Application
At the beginning of the dry period. Also recommended for cows and heifers about 10 days before calving.
Over an external temperature of 0°C.
Clean the teats thorougly and then apply in two separate applications with the cup provided, one minute apart, to allow time for the first application to dry. Secure the animals to the feed fence for 15 to 30 minutes after application to allow Maxi Dry Cow Teat Seal to dry properly on the teat.
Effective period
5 days
250 ml is sufficient for about 60 udders.
